FARGO-A longtime entrepreneur's new venture is a lot different from his previous work, and that's the point.
Barry Maring recently opened Right at Home offices in Fargo, 15 Broadway N., as well as in Detroit Lakes, Minn., to start his new franchise of the Omaha-based Right at Home.
The company, which was founded in 1995, now has more than 500 locations, including a separately owned Minneapolis franchise. But it didn't have a presence in North Dakota, and Maring said he jumped at the chance.
The company will primarily offer two types of in-home care in a wide area stretching from south of Grand Forks to the South Dakota border in eastern North Dakota to portions of western Minnesota, including Fergus Falls and Detroit Lakes.
Maring said companion care will include things like light cleaning, cooking and running errands, while personal care will cover services like bathing, dressing, and assistance with taking medication.

"The whole thing is to try to keep people in their houses longer," he said.
Maring said the private-pay business can also provide additional care for clients who live in independent living facilities but need or want more help.
He's previously been involved in the food business and developed several different franchises. But Maring said he decided to bring Right at Home to the region because of the company's reputation as well as its mission of helping clients.
"This thing was just completely different," he said. "I was pretty excited just to try something that had a little bit more meaning to it."
Maring said the new franchise, which opened Nov. 27, is expected to have 200 or more part-time caregivers working for it in the near future. For more information, call (866) 292-5609 or visit www.fargohomecare.com .
