FARGO — Independent Family Doctors in the Goldmark Office Park has been purchased by Essentia Health.

The doctors who own the clinic at 1711 Gold Drive, just south of Interstate 94, recently sent a letter to their patients announcing the sale.

According to the letter, Independent Family Doctors will become part of Essentia’s family health department on April 1.

It will be renamed Essentia Health Fargo Family Clinic at that time, Essentia spokeswoman Kelsey Mix said Monday, March 14.

“We are honored to welcome the Independent Family Doctors to the Essentia family, and we look forward to working together to make a healthy difference in people’s lives," Essentia's West Market COO Al Hurley said Monday. "This new agreement aligns with our mission of bringing high-quality, compassionate care to the patients we are privileged to serve.”

Independent Family Doctors started operating in August 2002. It is owned by Drs. Michelle Radke, Steve Johnson, and Teri Johnson.

Change was being forced on IFD, the letter indicates.

“Unfortunately, this past year we learned that when the lease to our clinic space expires at the end of December 2022, we will not have the option to renew. This prompted us to evaluate where we were in our careers and explore our options for the future,” the letter said. “It was during this exploration that we began talks with Essentia Health. We quickly found that their values and mission closely aligned with ours and a trusting relationship was formed.”

Mix said Essentia is working on plans for a new facility for Independent Family Doctors.

The letter assures patients that they will not see “any major changes,” with the same phone number to call for appointments and “the same friendly faces at the clinic.”

Essentia offered jobs to all of the clinics workers, Mix said.

The letter says that the relationship with Essentia will give patients access to “the full spectrum of specialty care” in a more seamless way.
