Hi-tech goods are among the hottest selling gift items this Christmas season, but a check of area stores showed some tried-and-true toys still command a spot on many shopping lists.
Two toys decades old and similar in function - Etch A Sketch and Magna Doodle, are still big draws at the Moorhead Kmart, according to store manager Nick Bosh.
"It (Christmas) is still about toys," Bosh said.
Dolls of all kind, including the Barbie and Bratz lines, remain big sellers as well, he said.
"Cabbage Patch dolls are coming back. And for boys, Hot Wheels are still very, very popular," Bosh said.

As every year, Bosh said, traditional games like Monopoly and Candy Land remain popular gifts.
He said radio-controlled vehicles are zooming out of the store and, in some cases, certain models will be hard to find.
MP3 players, which can store and play a tremendous amount of digital music, have been difficult to keep in stock at the Fargo Wal-Mart store, assistant manager Lauren Hoffman said.
Flat-screen TVs, too, are selling well she said, as are some of the basics of the winter season.
"A lot of the sweaters and dress slacks have been selling quite well," she said, adding they've also sold a bundle of cold weather apparel.
Any clothes with a sport motif, particularly dressier jackets, are particularly popular, Hoffman said.
LaDonna Hanson couldn't agree more.
Hanson, of West Fargo, was shopping at the Moorhead Center Mall on Sunday and on the lookout for anything with a racing theme.

"We're race car fans," said Hanson, adding that much of her family's gift giving involves sweatshirts, T-shirts and anything else bearing symbols or logos connected with vehicles moving fast.
"My daughter races go-carts," Hanson said, referring to her daughter, Amanda, 14.
