Francis photographs in international exhibit

Photographs created by Dan Francis of Dan Francis Photography, Fargo, have been accepted into the general collection of the Professional Photographers of America's 2013 International Photographic Competition.

Francis' photos, which include "The Contender," "Lost in Translation" and "Loaded Weapon," will be on display at the Phoenix Convention Center in January in conjunction with the Imaging USA annual convention and expo for professional photographers and photographic associations.

Fargo attorney named national Elks counsel

Fargo attorney David R. Bailly has been named national legal counsel of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America.

Bailly previously served in this position from 1987-1995. The Elks are based in Chicago, but Bailly will serve in this capacity from his office in Fargo. He continues to practice law in the area as Bailly Law Office & Consulting and coordinates his other business interests as Bailly Holdings Americas.

He has been a licensed attorney in North Dakota and Minnesota for 37 years.

Eastern Star chapter installs new officers

The North Dakota Order of the Eastern Star Grand Chapter has installed officers for 2013-14. Those installed include:

Julia Johnson, Westhope, worthy grand matron; Larry Sitter, Granville, worthy grand patron; Janet Greenwood, Cavalier, associate grand matron; William Zeller, Walhalla, associate grand patron; Roberta Kloster, Fargo, grand secretary; Audrey Well, Mandan, grand treasurer; Cindy Schwab, Fargo, associate grand conductress; and Fred Larson, Bismarck, grand sentinel.

The chapter raises money for various projects, veterans and military organizations, community youth groups, the Alzheimer's Association and the International Peace Garden.

Dusek to serve on NADC board

Steve Dusek, president and CEO of the Dakota Certified Development Corp., Fargo, has been elected to the National Association of Development Companies board of directors and will serve as vice chairman of regulatory affairs.

In this capacity, Dusek will oversee guidance regarding the technical aspects of the Small Business Administration 504 loan process.

Rotvold re-elected secretary of IAAP board

Kristi Rotvold, a member of the Red River Chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals, has been re-elected as secretary of the international board of the IAAP.

Rotvold has been a member of the Red River chapter since 1999 and is employed as an executive assistant to corporate administration/public affairs at Sanford, Fargo.

The Current earns station of year honors

For the fourth consecutive year, MPR's 89.3 The Current has been named Best Non Commercial AAA Station by Friday Morning Quarterback's Triple A Conference.

Jim McGuinn, 89.3 The Current program director, was awarded the Non Commercial AAA Program Director of the Year award, also for the fourth year in a row.

FMQB recently celebrated its 40th anniversary of serving the music and radio industries. FMQB was founded in 1968 by owner/publisher/radio-TV personality Kal Rudman.

Sanford nursing units earn Beacon awards

Three nursing units at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo have received the Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. The units include: 3 East Critical Care and 2 South Cardiac Progress Care, silver awards; and 2 East Cardiac Intensive Care, bronze.

The three units at Sanford in Fargo are the first in the region to receive this national recognition.

The awards recognize individual units that distinguish themselves by improving every facet of patient care. Units are scored on leadership structures and systems, appropriate staffing and staff engagement, effective communication, knowledge management and best practices, evidence-based practice and processes, and patient outcomes.

Visser elected to GBTA board

Rita Visser of Oracle Travel Services, Fargo, has been elected to the board of directors of the Global Business Travel Association. She will serve a three-year term.

GBTA provides its network of 21,000 business and government travel and meetings managers and travel service providers with networking events, news, education and professional development, research and advocacy.

Visser has worked in the travel industry for 20 years, starting in Fargo with Rosenbluth International.

Burns named winner of Marmomacc contest

Michael J. Burns of Michael J. Burns Architects Ltd., Moorhead, was named the winner of Marmomacc's continuing education contest. Marmomacc is the international trade fair for stone design and technology.

Burns will receive a free trip to Verona, Italy, to attend "Designing with Natural Stone," a week-long continuing education program for architects on stone design.

Burns has more than 36 years of experience in architectural practice and has operated his own practice since 1983.

ND ag board elects members

The North Dakota State Board of Agricultural Research and Education elected new officers for the upcoming year. Those elected include:

Mike Beltz, Hillsboro, chairman; Keith Peltier, West Fargo, vice chairman; and Lyle Warner and Brian Leier have been elected to four-year terms on the board of directors.

Beltz has been a producer in North Dakota for many years, and Peltier has been active for many years in agricultural and community organizations.

Warner owns and operates a livestock farm near Baldwin and he retired from Bismarck State College in 2009 after 27 years of teaching agribusiness as an associate professor of agriculture, technology and natural resources.

Leier is a certified seed grower from Linton.

Outgoing board members are Robert Bahm and John Bollingberg. The outgoing SBARE chairman is Rodney Howe, whose term expires in 2015.
