Hanna receives top Scouting, Rotary award

Bob Hanna, a member and past president of the Moorhead Rotary Club, has received the Cliff Dochterman Award for Scouting.

His award is the first ever given in Rotary District 5580. It is also the first awarded in the Northern Lights Council of Boy Scouts of America, which includes North Dakota and western Minnesota.

The honor is presented to Rotary Club members who have shown leadership and commitment to the community, the Scouts and Rotary.

Guggisberg to attend leadership institute

North Dakota State Rep. Ron Guggisberg, Fargo, was among 37 lawmakers chosen to participate in the Council of State Governments' annual Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development.

The annual training program identifies and assists promising state leaders in the Midwest.

Guggisberg will meet with fellow lawmakers from North Dakota and other Midwestern states and Canadian provinces Aug. 10-14 in Madison, Wis.

In addition to courses designed to develop leadership skills, the program analyzes a variety of public policy issues, including the economy, economic development and corrections.

Thrivent named a top performing company

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has been named to the 2012 Ward's 50 Top Performing Insurance Companies.

The Ward Group is an operational consulting firm and provider of benchmarking services to the insurance industry.

Nearly 800 life-health insurance companies were analyzed in the survey. Each of 50 companies on the list passed all safety and consistency screens and achieved superior performance over the five-year period of analysis of 2007-2011.

Chambers USA edition recognizes local lawyers

Four lawyers at the Maring Williams Law Office, Fargo and Bismarck, have been recognized in the 2012 edition of "Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers, for Business."

Those recognized are: David Maring, commercial litigation and personal injury; Michael Williams, personal injury, wrongful death litigation and disability rights; Daniel Dunn, commercial litigation; and Duane Lillehaug, insurance law and personal injury.

The firm and its lawyers were also recognized as a leading firm in the general commercial litigation category.

Toastmaster members recognized with awards

Members of the Great Plains Toastmasters, Fargo, have been recognized with awards. The awards went to:

Rachel Ramstad, Toastmaster of the Year; Joyce Yexley, best speaker and The Spirit of Toastmasters; Kim Larson and Catherine McDade, best evaluator (tie); and Monica Hart, best table topics.

New officers elected are: Pi-hsia Su, president; Ramstad, vice president of education: Billie Sutherland, vice president of membership: Yexley, vice president of public relations: Melissa Patterson, secretary: McDade, treasurer: and Jiangfan Shi, sergeant at arms.

Wallwork center named a top winch dealer
