FARGO — A speedy new way for owners of electric cars to recharge is to come to Fargo this summer.
Cass County Electric Cooperative plans to install Level 3 charging systems at West Acres Regional Shopping Center, Hornbachers in West Fargo's Gateway West Shopping Center, and The Fargo-Moorhead Convention & Visitors Bureau. Drivers will have to pay to use the stations.
The charging stations are being paid for from North Dakota's share of a $14.7 billion U.S. government settlement agreement with Volkswagen for the auto maker's alleged violations of the Clean Air Act.
Cass County Electric Cooperative says this is just the first step in bringing more electric cars to the city.
"We're going to need a much more robust charging station for electric vehicles to become commonplace and more prevalent. So this is just the first steps in electrifying North Dakota and giving charging options to North Dakota residents," said Chad Brousseau, Manager of Energy Services with Cass County Electric.
