FARGO — The owner of West Fargo’s Freya Salon is closing up shop and moving to much bigger digs.
Nikki Olson, who has 27 years of experience doing hair, will be relocating her salon to 3253 42nd St. S. in Fargo. The new location, Loft42 Luxury Salon Studios, will feature 20 rental suites as well as two rooms for massages and aestheticians. Olson told InForum 13 of the 20 suites have already been rented.“We’re on the whole top floor, so we’re pretty excited about that,” she said.
Olson, who has previous experience as the owner of Blonde Ambition in Fargo as well as a salon in Walker, Minn., said customers can expect a top-tier experience. “It’s going to be very high end and very luxurious,” she said. “We just really went all out on the finishes.”
The salon will check in at 4,407-square-feet, city building permit records indicated , and will take up the entire second floor. Fit-up costs for the salon total $400,000, building permit records stated.
Loft42 Salon will be located directly south of the JL Beers and west of Schmidt’s Gems and Fine Jewelry. “That area is up and coming now,” Olson remarked.

The move was borne out of necessity as Freya Salon began to outgrow its current location at 3140 Bluestem Drive S. “I just decided I wanted to expand and we couldn’t do that at the place we were,” Olson explained.
If all goes well, Olson hopes to have Loft42 Salon open May 1. It helps that she and the salon’s stylists will bring a strong customer base with them. “Most of my renters have their clients built up already,” she said, adding that new stylists are welcome. “It’d be a really great place for somebody new because all the new clients would go to them.”
Olson expressed optimism about the prospect of bringing another luxury rental salon to Fargo. She also took pride in the prospect of stepping up to the level of another prominent south Fargo salon — the 22,00-square-foot Hair Success at 3233 45th St. S.
“Besides Hair Success, there isn’t a real high-end rental suite place,” Olson said. “It’s kind of nice to be the small guy catching up with the big guy.”
