MacKenzie River Pizza opens in West Fargo
WEST FARGO -- The first MacKenzie River Pizza location for eastern North Dakota is now open in West Fargo.
The rustic Rocky Mountain-inspired restaurant at 819 24th Ave. E. has a full bar and varied American fare menu, offering everything from pizza and pasta to burgers and fries.
Franchisees Lance and Shoni Robinson, of Missoula, Mont., own another MacKenzie River in Bismarck and two in Montana.
One unique feature of the establishment is its frost rail encircling the bar that allows patrons to keep their resting drinks cold.
After opening the doors on Monday, Dec. 10, Lance Robinson said things were going well, with a steady stream of customers.
“We’re excited to bring MacKenzie River to Fargo,” Robinson said
Inside, the woodsy atmosphere is accented with refurbished and felled lumber furnishings, antique outdoor sportsman finishes and photographs of the Rocky Mountains.
Robinson said when the grill and pub first started, its focus was on pizza, but the West Fargo location has a wide array of menu items from sandwiches to meatloaf.
“So we have the staples that made MacKenzie River what it is, but we also added a lot,” Robinson said.
Robinson, a former college football coach, said he and his wife were interested in opening a metro location after one of his players, a West Fargo native, suggested they look at the city as a future franchise location.
The restaurant hired about 80 staff members and may add more.
“We’ll see how it goes,” Robinson said. “We didn't bring anyone from our other stores, so staff is all local product, a part of the community.”
