Fargo - While supply chain issues have pushed back the opening date for Mickey Roo Maternity + Nursery, owners McKenzie and Janell Kjos are making the best of it. The mother and daughter are operating a holiday pop-up through the end of December in the store's future home at 4600 32nd Ave. S. Suite 104.

Once fully stocked, Mickey Roo will carry cribs and gliders, car seats, strollers, nursery essentials, maternity wear and more. On Thursday, Dec. 16, McKenzie told The Forum what they're having a hard time securing are the bigger items like nursery furniture and strollers.

They hope to have the store fully stocked and ready to open sometime this spring.

Mickey Roo is connected by a walkway to Tootsie's Children's Boutique, another store owned by McKenzie Kjos. She opened the store in 2017 at 5670 38th Ave. S. in Fargo. She relocated the store featuring children's clothes in sizes preemie to size 6 to the BLU 32 development in March of 2021 .

In April of 2021, McKenzie opened Kenzie + Co. Kids Boutique in the former Tootsie's location . Kenzie + Co. picks up where Tootsie's leaves off, carrying children's clothing in sizes 6 to 16.

McKenzie said she's always wanted to get into the gear side of things like what they'll carry at Mickey Roo. She said it was her mom who motivated her to do it now.

"It was actually my mom that came to me after moving Tootsies and said she thought of a great idea. She wanted to do maternity and nursery together in one store right next door to Tootsies so that it would be a one stop shop for moms and dads! She had the name all picked out already and asked if I would want to do it with her. I couldn't say no," she said. "She has really enjoyed helping me over the past 4 1/2 years at Tootsies and Kenzie + Co., so it's really special for us to have a store together"
