NDSU offers financial training course for teachers

The North Dakota State University Extension Service is holding several programs throughout the state to train teachers to use the National Endowment for Financial Education's High School Financial Planning Program.

The North Dakota State University Extension Service is holding several programs throughout the state to train teachers to use the National Endowment for Financial Education's High School Financial Planning Program.

Beginning this fall, North Dakota high schools will offer a personal finance curriculum as a result of legislation the 2009 state Legislature passed. This training will help teachers meet the legislative mandate, says Debra Pankow, NDSU Extension family economics specialist.

The training will be on two dates: June 16 and Aug. 17. All sessions are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. except in Dickinson, where the training is from 8 a.m. to noon.

Locations for the June 16 sessions are:

- Bismarck/Mandan: Morton County Courthouse, Custer Health.

- Carrington: NDSU Carrington Research Extension Center, IVN room.

- Devils Lake: Lake Region Special Education Office.

- Fargo: Cass County Annex.

- Garrison: Garrison High School, ITV Room 2.

- Jamestown: James Valley Career and Technology Center, Room D.

- Minot: NDSU North Central Research Extension Center.

- Wahpeton: North Dakota State College of Science Library.

Locations for the Aug. 17 sessions are:

- Williston: Williams County Courthouse, second-floor conference room.

If a site is not offered in your area and you have four or more educators who are available on one of the dates the trainings (portions through the Interactive Video Network) will be held, contact Pankow at debra.pankow@ndsu.edu or (701) 231-8593 or your local county Extension office and training coordinators will try to add your site.

The registration fee is $8, which includes a binder of teaching materials (instructor manual, resource DVD and customized lesson plans to meet each part of the mandate), lunch and snacks. A registration form is available online at www.ag.ndsu.edu/money/
