FARGO — Home prices are climbing in North Dakota, up more than 6% from last year.

Unfortunately for local buyers, they're also dealing with the number of homes selling in the metro.

Since 2019, the price of homes selling in the area has increased 20%, while there are 10% fewer homes hitting the market since the start of the pandemic.

"Buyers in this market have to be fully prepared. Also, what we're finding compared to other years is having having money in your pocket is a big leg up for buyers when you're competing against other buyers in this market," said Joel Schneeberger, director of sales for Brandenburg Crew at EXP Realty.

He added, buyers need to be ready for a battle when trying to buy now. Or they'll have to wait for winter, for prices to go down.
