FARGO - A restaurant called Brew Bird is expected to take over the former Daran’s Southern Soul Food location on the western edge of downtown, but no timetable has been given.

In late May, Brew Bird was approved for a Class F liquor license for 30 University Drive N. on a 5-0 vote by the Fargo City Commission. A Class F license allows for full liquor sales, but without a bar. Food sales must also exceed alcohol sales. The initial fee for the license is $3,000, city Auditor Steve Sprague told the commission.

According to a posting on the Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce web site, Brew Bird will be a family-friendly, fast-casual restaurant offering dine-in, pick-up and limited delivery options. The menu will include house-breaded fried chicken sandwiches and tenders, burgers and a variety of sides and options for children.

A man working in the building on Monday, June 3, said he did not know when the restaurant will open.

Brew Bird is an initiative of Brew Restaurants, which is owned and operated by Shelby and Chad Terstriep and Britt and Alex Belquist.

Brew Restaurants includes Brew Ales & Eats in Perham, Minn., and City Brew Hall and City Brew Hall Weddings and Events in Wahpeton, N.D.

The Terstrieps and Belquists are also involved in plans to open an eatery called 701 at 701 N. University Drive. The restaurant is supposed to incorporate the former Rosie’s Laundromat building at that location.
