MOORHEAD — A new Dollar General will be opening in north Moorhead, building permit records show.
The bargain store is in progress at 1502 10½ St. N., directly north of Matson Memorial Field and immediately west of the Holiday Stationstores at the intersection of 15th Ave. N. and 11th St. N.
The city approved a building permit for the Dollar General Tuesday, January 19, with costs for the engineered building listed at $600,000. A Dollar General spokesperson confirmed the new location to The Forum Tuesday, March 30.
The location is scheduled to open this summer, though construction delays could potentially delay the project. Dirt work was underway at the site as of Tuesday, March 30.
Once opened, it'll be Dollar General's third location in the Fargo-Moorhead area. Dollar General's two other F-M locations are at 425 32nd Ave. W. in West Fargo and 51 110th St. S. in Glyndon. The store is expected to hire between six and 10 employees, the spokesperson said.
The new Moorhead store is just one of the projects the Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based firm (NYSE: DG) plans to launch in 2021. According to its third quarter earnings report, Dollar General is planning 2,900 projects, including 1,050 new store openings, 1,750 store remodels and 100 store relocations.
In total, Dollar General operates more than 17,000 stores across 46 states. Dollar General sells private-label brands as well as products from Clorox, Procter & Gamble, Kimberly-Clark, Unilever, Kellogg's, General Mills, Nabisco, Hanes, PepsiCo and Coca-Cola, the spokesperson said.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, shares of Dollar General reached new heights in 2020, rising above $200 per share in September and approaching $225 per share in October.
Shares opened trading Wednesday, March 31, at $200.69.
