MOORHEAD — A new Dollar General opened Thursday, July 29, at 1502 10½th St. N. in Moorhead.

The Moorhead store is the discount retailer's third in the Fargo-Moorhead area, with others located at 425 32nd Ave. W. in West Fargo and 51 110th St. S. in Glyndon. It is located near the intersection of 15th Avenue and 11th Street North, directly north of Matson Memorial Field and immediately west of the Holiday Station Store. The store will employ roughly six to 10 people.

A $600,000 building permit for the Dollar General was approved Tuesday, Jan. 19. Officials from the city of Moorhead were seen at the location this past week conducting final inspections of the building.

“The addition of our new Moorhead store highlights our commitment to deliver a pleasant shopping experience that includes great prices on quality products in a convenient location,” Dan Nieser, Dollar General's senior vice president of real estate and store development, said via news release. “We look forward to welcoming customers to our new store and hope they will enjoy shopping at our new location.”

The Moorhead Dollar General is just one piece of Dollar General's (NYSE: DG) extensive plans to expand their retail footprint. The Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based firm's announced its plans for 2,900 projects, including 1,050 new store openings, 1,750 store remodels and 100 store relocations in its 2020 third quarter earnings report.

Thus far, Dollar General has opened 260 new stores, remodeled 543 and relocated 33, the company's first quarter earnings report stated. The firm has a total of 17,426 stores in 46 states.

Shares of Dollar General closed Thursday at $233 and have gained roughly 22% over the past year. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, shares climbed to all-time highs throughout 2020 and have continued to do so in 2021.
