FARGO — Creative Kitchen, Fargo-Moorhead's best-known and longest-lived culinary store, will celebrate 45 years of business this week with cooking demonstrations, free samples, giveaways, presentations and vendor booths.

The store, located by the main northside entrance of West Acres Shopping Center, will hold special events this Thursday, Oct. 21, through Sunday, Oct. 24. Activities kick off at 5 p.m. Thursday with live cooking demonstrations and DJ Pretty Ricky providing music until 8 p.m.

Other special events will take place Saturday, with some events and booths extending into West Acres' Food Court. Demonstration booths will be lined up to showcase the newest from brands like OXO, Jura and Ankarsrum. There also will be stage presentations featuring Breville, Olivelle, Hestan and certified-organic producer Noreen Thomas of Doubting Thomas Farms.

"We've been very fortunate to be part of this community for a very long time," said Mark Sinner, Creative Kitchen's co-founder and current owner. "We're proud to have helped equip the many good cooks in our region and bring the latest culinary trends to the area."

The brainchild of husband-and-wife team Sinner and Claudia English, the first store started out as a modest 500-square-foot space in downtown Fargo's Elm Street Square in 1976.

"We wanted to start something, and I think we both liked the idea of being entrepreneurs," Sinner said in an earlier interview. "We noticed that cookware was mostly available at grocery stores or hardware stores. We wanted a place where you could find higher-quality items ... we just saw the opportunity to help people think of cooking as not just work, but something you could really enjoy."

English and Sinner moved Creative Kitchen to West Acres in 1978. The business has expanded its footprint numerous times and has now established itself as a destination store in the mall. English retired in 2014 and since then, Sinner has been sole owner.

Today, the business offers products and demonstrations for everyone from home cooks to professional chefs. The store specializes in high-quality bakeware, cookware, cutlery, linens and specialty foods, as well as kitchen equipment.

Creative Kitchen is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. However, they will be open until 8 p.m. this Thursday due to the anniversary celebration.
