FARGO - Fargo's second ALDI grocery store is expected to open Friday, Nov. 20, the company has announced.
The new store is at 3760 51st Ave S. , next to a recently opened Holiday gas and convenience store in the northwest quadrant of the intersection of Interstate 29 and 52nd Avenue South.
It will be the third store in the Fargo-Moorhead area, joining the West Acres area store which opened in June 2019 at 4303 13th Ave. S., and the first store in the metro which opened in November 2017 at 833 34th St. N., Dilworth.
The latest Fargo store is part of a major expansion the chain is undergoing with the aim of becoming the third-largest U.S. grocery retailer by store count by the end of 2022. The company is investing more than $5 billion in new buildings and remodeling older stores across the U.S.

“We know shopping for groceries is essential, which is why we are committed to providing high-quality, affordable groceries and a safe shopping experience,” Matt Lilla, Faribault division vice president for ALDI, said in an email Monday, Nov. 9. “We are proud to open this new Fargo store, and we look forward to doing what we do best, which is ensuring the communities we serve have access to the groceries they need at the lowest possible prices.”
The company has more than 2,000 stores in 36 states.
The Fargo store will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. It will be offering curbside grocery pickup beginning Dec. 4.

The building permit for the latest ALDI was issued by the city of Fargo in April. It called for a 19,345-square-foot structure worth about $2.8 million. Another permit was issued for a $250,000 parking lot.
Aldi - short for Albrecht Discount - was first opened in Essen, Germany, by Anna Albrecht in 1913, before being taken over and expanded by her sons Theo and Karl in 1948 as Albrecht Discount stores, according to Business Insider.
The name of the growing corporation was shortened to ALDI in the early 1960s.
ALDI opened its first store in American in Iowa in 1976.

In 1979, Theo Albrecht purchased the Trader Joe's chain, Business Insider reports.
