MOORHEAD - Shasta Reindl is sure that she and her husband, Chris, can build anyone the paw-fect kennel or cat condo.
The Reindls own 45 Degree Kennels, a custom pet furniture store which opened at the start of December in the former Sportland building at 106 5th St. S.
“This was something that we’ve always near and dear to our hearts. We have two German shepherds. … We had two wire crate kennels that were always in the way. They weren’t versatile. You couldn’t put anything on them,” Shasta Reindl said Wednesday, Dec. 11.
“We wanted something that was multifunctional. And we wanted something to offer to the public” that was handmade locally, she said.
The couple also operate 45 Degree Angle, a home and commercial remodeling company that they started in April.
They took over the Sportland spot Nov. 1, and remodeled the “ruff” interior and built their showroom samples in one hectic month, Reindl said.

They decided on a downtown Moorhead location because they want to be part of bringing the downtown back to life, “just like downtown Fargo,” she said.
The front of the building is an office and showroom, while the back half of the building is taken up by Chris’ shop.
Shasta designs the custom products and sands, stains and paints as needed.
Some of the showroom offerings include repurposed end tables with puppy or kitty nooks for $40 to $65. A shadow bed with decorative lights runs $95. A custom kennel for a large dog (German shepherd-sized) is about $600, though a smaller version can be made for about $425, Reindl said.
Cat condos, ledges, and cat scratching posts will also be coming, Reindl said.
“It was basically seeing a problem, and just trying to make a solution,” she said. “The world is their oyster when (a pet owner) comes to us. We can do anything, just about.”
The business doesn’t have a web site yet, but it does have a presence on Facebook and Instagram, Reindl said.
