FARGO — A new facial bar in south Fargo is catering to people on-the-go.

Face Foundrie, 4582 32nd Ave. S. Suite B, offers 40-minute focused facials and 20 minute mini-facials as well as lash extensions, brow waxing and other skin care services.

Owner Greta Gunderson said she loves spending Mother's Day at the spa, but it's a once-a-year treat for her.

"I always say I love a good (day) spa experience; however, this is meant to be a lot quicker. This is meant more for people to come in on their lunch break or when the kids are at sports," Gunderson said.

Face Foundrie will host a ribbon cutting with the Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, followed by an open house until 11 a.m. They'll start seeing clients at noon.

A career pivot

The Face Foundrie franchise was founded by Michele Henry in Minneapolis in 2019.

After having her third child, Henry was searching "for skin care treatments that could support her changing skin, the shift in hormones, age, pregnancies, and life. .... With three little ones at home, she didn’t have the flexibility to book a spa day three weeks in advance or fit within the typical narrow business hours," according to the Face Foundrie website.

Henry set out to open a business that offered walk-in service accommodations for lash extensions, facial waxing, 20- to 40-minute facials, and an array of custom curated skincare products.

Her first facial bar opened in The Galleria mall in Edina, Minn., followed by a location in Maple Grove. That's where Gunderson first visited Face Foundrie.

As a mom of three herself, Gunderson said she appreciated the quick in-and-out service. So much so, it got her thinking about owning a similar business in Fargo.

The Detroit Lakes, Minn.-native said she's always been interested in skin care, but her parents encouraged her to attend college and pursue a career like accounting.

After giving birth to her third daughter, Gunderson said she was contemplating going back to accounting or trying something new. Enter Face Foundrie.

She was one of the first to reach out when Face Foundrie began franchising its facial bars in January of 2021.

"All the sudden, I thought I could combine that college experience with something I'm interested in and had a passion for. I think this might be a really good fit for me," she said.

Gunderson's store, located in the same building as Wimmer's Diamonds on the corner of 32nd Avenue and 45th Street, is the first Face Foundrie in North Dakota.

"We were attracted to the rapid growth that Fargo has been experiencing and love that the community strongly supports small businesses," Henry said. "The need for an efficient, effective and approachable facial bar was apparent as we noticed the strong demographics within the city of Fargo and its surrounding areas.”

'Just faces'

According to Gunderson, one of the ways Face Foundrie is different than its competitors is that they focus solely on the face.

"It's faces up. Just faces," she said. "A lot of times I feel like facials are a side. A business will say 'We do this service, and by the way we also do facials,' where this is our bread and butter. We're very focused. Estheticians are who we hire and who we are. Our passion is faces."

Gunderson said Face Foundrie's prices are reasonable as well.

"The prices are intentionally a little lower, too, so it's more affordable and accessible to everyone," she said.
