Wisconsin-based Esterline Control Systems - AVISTA, producer of aerospace, defense, medical and industrial manufacturing software - is opening an office in Fargo.

Wisconsin-based Esterline Control Systems - AVISTA, producer of aerospace, defense, medical and industrial manufacturing software - is opening an office in Fargo.

Initially six or seven engineers will locate at the Fargo office, expected to open by the end of July, the Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corp. announced Tuesday.

The company ultimately plans to employ 25 to 30 engineers in Fargo, GFMEDC officials said.

The availability of software engineers in Fargo-Moorhead and the proximity to current client Phoenix International were reasons the company decided to locate in Fargo, said Tom Bragg, AVISTA vice president.

Phoenix International, which is owned by John Deere, designs, develops and manufactures electronic components and systems for heavy equipment used in industries like agriculture, construction and trucking. AVISTA assists Phoenix with development and testing of software that controls those components.

"Fargo offers a favorable business climate and work force to meet our needs and the needs of our regional clients," Bragg said.

AVISTA is headquartered in Platteville, Wis., and also has an office in Roseville, Minn.

The addition of AVISTA more firmly establishes Fargo-Moorhead as a competitive community in smart technology, said Claire Vigesaa, GFMEDC interim president.

"AVISTA is an outstanding company that will have an immediate impact in terms of adding good, high-paying jobs in our community," said Vigesaa.
