MOORHEAD - Sarpino’s Pizzeria in south Moorhead is no more.

The pizza and Italian food restaurant announced that it was closing in a Facebook posting June 2.

“With heavy hearts, we have to announce the closing of the Sarpino’s Pizzeria in Moorhead. We love this community! Thank you for all the support you have given the last 9 years!,” the Facebook post said.

The eatery was in a strip mall at 818 30th Ave. S.

No reason was given for the closure.

It is also unclear what was the last day of business for the restaurant. A June 3 Facebook post advertised a pizza party special for graduates that was to run through June 15.

There was no one at the pizzeria on Friday, June 19, though it appeared some equipment was being dismantled.

The strip mall, just southeast of the Eighth Street South and Interstate 94 interchange, is becoming a lonely place. Only the CVS Pharmacy drugstore remains open there, with the rest of the other former tenants gone, including O’Leary’s Irish Pub and Grill, Moorhead Halal Grocery and Snap Fitness. A large area on the south side of the mall that used to house a grocery store also remains empty.
