FARGO - Scoop N Dough Candy Co. has some sweet news for south Fargo.

The popular purveyor of popcorn, ice cream, cookie dough, and other treats will open its second location at noon on Thursday, July 15, in the Blu 32 retail center.

Owner and Candyman-In-Chief Josh Ulrich said he has a fun first week planned for his new candy land at 4600 32nd Ave. S., including treat specials and a drawing, which will net the winner a year of free ice cream or cookie dough.

Ulrich said 2,000-square-foot shop has given him the chance to greatly expand his selection of ice cream, cookie dough and popcorn. There will also be a large selection of bulk candy, Wily Wallabee licorice, cotton candy and chocolates.

“Scoop N Dough is going to be much more of a candy company,” Ulrich said Friday, July 2. “There’s a lot of fun stuff. Our goal is to make it a place where people can go to get all sorts of fun, sweet goodies.”

The shop will also carry hot dogs, chili, nachos, chips and Northern Soda Co.’s 1950s-style craft sodas. Twin Cities-based Northern Soda is “a very small, little company that does some fun flavors,” Ulrich said.

The new store, which is a block west of the busy intersection of 45th Street and 32nd Avenue South, also offers plenty of seating and lots of parking, he said.

In the meantime, the downtown store at 206 Roberts Alley N. will remain open.
The tiny, 500-square-foot shop, which opened in spring 2018, has had a busy start to the year, thanks to the let-up in the COVID-19 pandemic and a hot start to summer.

“It’s been very successful downtown. It’s been a great year. We’ve had a really good summer. It’s been a really good pickup in sales. And the ice cream industry has had a good rebound," Ulrich said.

However, another project, a coffee and sandwich concept called Cottage Table, has been put “on a long-term pause,” he said.

Ulrich added that he has no immediate plans to open other Scoop N Dough outlets in the Red River Valley or in Minnesota’s Lakes County, “but you never know what the future holds. Anything is possible.”
