The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy is just what the doctor ordered for fast-growing Horace
The small Fargo-Moorhead area bedroom community just south of West Fargo gets an important need filled for its residents.
HORACE, N.D. - The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy is now open in Horace, giving this growing bedroom community near West Fargo a convenience its residents used to have to travel miles to get in Fargo-Moorhead.
The pharmacy at 8001 Jacks Way, just off Main Street, opened June 1, co-owner and pharmacist Kyle Hilleren said Thursday, June. 9.
“Little by little, it’s finally coming together, Hilleren said. “A lot of couples have stopped by and told us how happy they were” that the shop was open.
Big windows on the west and north sides of the shop let in plenty of natural light. Popular over-the-counter items fill the shelves, there’s a small waiting area, and plenty of room for the pharmacists to work on orders. Off to the side are two consulting rooms, which will also be used for immunizations.
“We have a lot of work space for staff,” Hilleren said of the 1,874-square-foot store.
“I feel like it’s just the right amount of space,” he said. “We couldn’t be happier.”
The drive-through for the shop will be finished soon, he said, which will be a plus for people in a hurry.
Also partners in the shop are pharmacists LaNell Hagen, Karl Krenz and Ross Wilhelm.
They are also partners in the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy that opened a few years ago in the MEDPark Medical Center at 32nd Avenue South and 45th Street in Fargo.
Wilhelm is manager and director of the corporation that owns the Medicine Shoppes at 2800 N. Broadway and 1605 S. University Drive, though the pharmacists share duties at those shops, Hilleren said.
The Medicine Shoppe is next to Vive Salon, but it will have more neighbors in the not-too-distant future, as foundations are being poured for a retail strip center just to the north.
The north side of Horace is growing quickly, with houses springing up by the dozen in developments around the West Fargo School District’s newest high school and middle school.
City Administrator Brent Holper said the city did some strategic planning a few years ago and a pharmacy was identified as a need, as well as a grocery store, a clinic, and other amenities.
As far as Holper's concerned, The Medicine Shoppe is just what the doctor ordered.
“We’re happy to see them coming,” Holper said.
Pharmacy hours are 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday. They are closed Saturday and Sunday, though customers needing prescriptions filled can have go to the Medicine Shoppes on North Broadway and South University Drive, Hilleren said.
