DAVENPORT, N.D. - The Pines Weddings and Events is gearing up for a major expansion, with plans to add a 13,300-square-foot indoor venue - painted black.

Pines Black will include an indoor ceremony space, reception hall, and lounge complete with a golf simulator and pool table. It will be located between the farmstead's original grain bins.

Groundbreaking will be in late July or sometime in August, with a planned spring 2022 opening. Dates are being booked for June 1, 2022, and beyond.

"This addition to our property and the local wedding industry is so exciting," Emily Finley, the event manager at The Pines, said in a news release Tuesday, July 20. “Now offering two, unique gathering options, we can better serve clients and accommodate the demand for a Pines wedding."

The original Pines White space features 8,900 square feet of room for events, with an outdoor wedding ceremony area and an original farmhouse complete with an in-ground swimming pool.

The Pines opened nearly three years ago, and was named the 2019 and 2020 “Best Wedding Venue” by InForum's "Best of the Red River Valley.”

“The indoor ceremony site at Pines Black, as well as the attached lounge and prep spaces, will greatly enhance the opportunity for year-round events,” Finley said.
Pines co-owner Grant Koenig said the color scheme reflects the traditional wedding palette.

Koenig said The Pines has proven to be popular for weddings, with 75 scheduled this year in Pines White and 65 scheduled for next year.

“We just had more demand than we had capacity and we wanted to be able to accommodate more guests,” Koenig said.

"Opening The Pines has been incredibly rewarding for us," co-owner Blain Mikkonen said. "As designers, it's allowed us to do what we love - create a space where people love to gather and celebrate."

The Pines has hosted more than 175 weddings and events since it opened.

"The grounds have a ton of extra space that we want to see used, so we decided it's time for another venue,” Koenig said.
