Cass County Jail lifts lockdown, finds three more COVID-19 positive inmates

The jail ended the lockdown Friday.

FARGO — The Cass County Jail ended it's lockdown Friday, Dec. 11. The two-week lockdown happened after 27 inmates and 3 staff tested positive for COVID-19.

A second round of mass testing for all inmates and staff on Monday, Dec. 7, found three more positive inmates in the same living pod as the first 27 positive cases.

Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner says the jail was expecting a few more positives as people continue to develop symptoms.

Now, the Sheriff says they are evaluating where the jail can do better.

"Those things include some possible different sanitation methods - looking at ways we can implement quicker testing capability to get back quicker test results," said Jahner, "We did conduct a deep cleaning of the facilities after we had this breakout, so we've done that already. We will continue our intake monitoring upon arrival with our officers and arrestees."
