Awesome Foundation asking Cass, Clay counties to pay it forward by giving out free cash

The foundation's Cass-Clay chapter will give undisclosed amounts of money to community members to celebrate its five-year anniversary.

FARGO — The Cass-Clay Chapter of the Awesome Foundation announced Wednesday. Aug. 11, that it plans to give out free money to celebrate its five-year anniversary and spark positive change in local communities.

Pink envelopes with undisclosed amounts of money will be distributed throughout Fargo, Moorhead, West Fargo and surrounding cities Saturday, Aug. 14, according to a statement from the foundation.

“We are so excited to be able to celebrate our anniversary in such a fun way,” says Brandi Malarkey, dean of the local Awesome Foundation chapter.

Chapter trustees and helpers will hand out the envelopes at random to people between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday.

People who receive the money are encouraged by the Awesome Foundation to pay it forward in their community by using the cash to help others in a positive way, such as donating to a charity or buying a stranger a cup of coffee.

Finders can let the foundation know what they did with the money by emailing cassclay@awesomefoundation.org or by posting to the group's Facebook page.

Since August 2016, the Cass-Clay Chapter of the Awesome Foundation has awarded $72,000 to various projects throughout the community, with $1,000 gifts given out monthly. The foundation as a whole has given out $5 million worldwide, according to a statement from the Cass-Clay chapter.
