Doug Roise, Barnesville, Letter: Take another look at candidate Ron Paul

Knowing how fair and balanced The Forum is, you surely want to include Congressman Ron Paul in your list of top-tier 2008 Republican presidential candidates. I'm not sure how you could have missed him (unless I missed your coverage of him).

Dr. Ron Paul is a U.S. Congressman from Texas serving in his 10th term. He is THIRD among the Republican candidates in fundraising and cash on hand (more than John McCain), and is rapidly gaining momentum.

In his 10 terms in Congress he has never voted to raise taxes; never voted for an unbalanced budget; never voted to raise congressional pay; never taken a government (meaning taxpayer) paid junket; never voted to increase the power of the executive branch; voted against regulating the Internet; he does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program; and has repeatedly been named the "taxpayer's best friend" in Congress.

In the current presidential race there are a number of newsworthy items: Last quarter his campaign raised $5.4 million and so far this quarter (one month and five days) he has raised

$5.9 million. As of this date, Paul has won more straw polls than any other Republican candidate. Paul has placed third or better in 74 percent of straw polls. Paul won the national MSNBC and Fox News Republican debate polls; Paul won the CNN.com Republican debate poll with

60 percent and the ABCNews.com debate poll with 84 percent.

Paul won a CSPAN online GOP candidate poll with 69 percent; Paul is the most mentioned candidate in online blogs, and has the most YouTube subscribers among all candidates.

Paul is the leading advocate of freedom and has a voting record which backs him up. Readers of The Forum can learn more about Paul at www.ronpaul2008.com , www.ronpaulnation.com , www.ronpaul2008.com/video-network/ , and many other places online. Thanks to The Forum for including this valuable information about the 2008 presidential race. Hopefully they will give Ron Paul further attention.
