DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — More than 500 people filled their plates with turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy at the annual Community Thanksgiving Feast at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Thursday afternoon.

For those who couldn't travel, they delivered 250 more dinners to homes in the area.

WDAY News spoke to organizers who put this event on every year so people don't have to feel alone during the holiday.

"For people who don't have family or are unable to travel, we just like to put on a nice meal for everybody," said Matt Brenk, mayor of Detriot Lakes

He said this year, they've served the most people to date and had to cook a few extra turkeys.
