BARNESVILLE, Minn. — The 107th Clay County Fair, originally scheduled for July, is postponed to 2021, the fair announced on its Facebook page Wednesday.
Per the post, the Clay County Fair Board of Directors met May 18 to discuss restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic. After the discussion, they decided to postpone the fair until next year.
"It would be exceedingly difficult to conduct the fair to the high standards that the board sets for itself each year," the post read. "Believe us, we would love nothing more than to eat fair food, watch livestock shows, go on rides and take in a grandstand event, but the protocols put in place to protect people from COVID-19 are simply unrealistic for our volunteer organization to achieve, and the liability involved is too great for our volunteer organization to risk."
The post said they will instead put energy toward continued improvements on the fairgrounds.
