FARGO — Sanford is giving children with cancer the chance to have fun outside the clinic by throwing a pie in the face of their favorite doctor or nurse.
To raise awareness for childhood cancer month in September, Sanford held its first Pie Your Provider event today at Roger Maris Cancer Center.
Kids could play instruments, craft, and, of course, throw pies.
Sanford says the event helps support the children during their treatment.
"I've been a nurse here for 31 years so the question I always get asked is how can you do what you do? Look at these kiddos back here. This is why we do what we do," said Marcia Bettenhausen, manager of pediatric oncology at Roger Maris Cancer CEnter.
"They get to come out and have fun instead of just being at the clinic when things are being done to them or for them. They get to come together and make new friends outside of the clinical environment," she said.
