Firefighters take their turn in friendly bell ringing competition

Red Kettle Campaign bell ringer
There is still room for volunteer bell-ringers for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign.

Firefighters in the metro took their turns at the Red Kettles around town on Dec. 14.

Every year they compete against realtors and law enforcement who each have their own day of ringing.

Whoever brings in the most for the Salvation Army takes home the trophy in this friendly competition.

Off duty firefighters covered 26 of the 32 locations around town and collectively rang for over 240 hours.

The firefighters also raised nearly $4,000 from sponsors before they started ringing.
