Anna Dosso of Georgetown, Minnesota, has been suffering from a nervous system disorder since she was a teenager. One morning she woke up and couldn’t move her right leg from the knee down. Now in her 30s, her condition has progressed significantly, decreasing her function in all four extremities. Recent genetic testing revealed that she has a rare type of gene mutation. She is pursuing treatment at the University of Minnesota and is committed to regaining her strength and mobility to continue working as a home health nurse. The funds raised through her online Lend A Hand Up fundraiser will help Anna access medical care, obtain mobility devices, and provide for her two sons Gabriel, 8, and Max, 18 months.

A golf scramble, raffle and bean bag tournament to benefit Val Howard will be held May 20 at the Birchwood Golf Course in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. Howard is experiencing pain and limited mobility due to mitral valve disorder, neuropathy, and breast cancer that has metastasized to her organs and bones. After recent surgery and a lengthy hospital stay, she has resumed treatment at Roger Maris Cancer Center in Fargo. Funds raised through the tournaments, raffle, and online Lend A Hand Up fundraiser will help Val and her husband, Gary, with medical bills and other expenses that are creating financial hardship.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
