New Fundraisers:
Brian Hanson , Fargo. A memorial online fundraiser has been established for the family of Brian Hanson. On April 2nd, as Jodi set the table for their family’s early Easter dinner, Brian suffered a massive heart attack while shoveling snow off the roof. Brian worked at Heritage Homes for 18 years and was a coach and mentor to many hockey players. He and Jodi have four children, a son-in-law, one grandchild, and many friends who will dearly miss him.

Val Howard , Fargo, is experiencing pain and limited mobility due to mitral valve disorder, neuropathy, and breast cancer that has metastasized to her organs and bones. After recent surgery and a lengthy hospital stay, she has resumed treatment at Roger Maris Cancer Center. Medical bills are creating financial hardship for her and her husband Christopher.

Brenda Wood , Fargo, began experiencing pain, stiffness and tremors in her upper body in July and they have progressively worsened. Following genetic testing at Roger Maris in Fargo, she has been referred to a Huntington’s Disease specialist in the Twin Cities. Family members and friends are hosting a fundraiser to ease her financial hardship.

Upcoming benefits

A benefit and online fundraiser for Arnetta Frueh will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Buffalo Community Center. Arnetta underwent her first kidney transplant in May of 2021 when her daughter proved to be the perfect match. Unfortunately, the transplant failed and Arnetta missed several holidays and milestones with her family as she received dialysis up until her second kidney transplant in December of 2022. Proceeds will help with the financial burden of dialysis, hospital, surgical, medication, and travel/lodging expenses.

A spaghetti feed, silent auction and bake sale to benefit Roxanne Thompson will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Cormorant (Minn.) Community Center. Thompson of Lake Park, Minnesota, was severely injured while participating in a charity motorcycle ride in August of 2022. Following surgical procedures and inpatient rehab, she was able to return home with the help of mobility devices. Her husband, Randy, and other family members assist her with activities of daily living, and she continues to work with physical therapists to regain her strength and mobility.

A benefit and online fundraiser for Jolene Brown of West Fargo will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 23, at Labby's Grill and Bar, Fargo. Brown was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer in April of 2022. In early January, due to aggressive treatment, she retired from her job as a social worker of over 30 years. She and her husband, Jerry, have four children and four grandchildren. Proceeds from the benefit and online fundraiser will help with medical bills, treatment expenses and prescription costs.
