FARGO - Gasper's School of Dance & Performing Arts will soon expand to south Fargo.
The downtown-based dance studio recently announced it will open a second location called GSD South at 3650 Veterans Boulevard S. this fall.
"In celebration of 40 years of teaching dance and theater in the F-M area, it was a good time to expand our reach to south Fargo and West Fargo and be accessible to future dancers, young and old," says Gasper's owner Matt Gasper.
Gasper says they're responding to a growing community and demand.
"As Fargo has grown, so has the family travel time to get the dancers from school to piano lessons, to the ball game, etc.," he says. "Then having to run them all the way downtown was taxing on these families. So, we decided to bring our amazing professional staff, myself included, to the West Fargo/south Fargo area."
The downtown Fargo studio at 524 Seventh Street N. will remain open.
GSD South will be home to many of the dance styles offered downtown, including ballet, musical theater, jazz, tap, hip-hop, contemporary and ballroom. The levels will be targeted for beginner youth ages, teens and adults.
GFitness classes, including Zumba, dance fit, ballet barre fitness and progressive ballet technique, will also be returning.
Gasper's is also starting a new program called GasperGo, which is an outreach residency program taking dance expertise to rural North Dakota and Minnesota. The first GasperGo location will be in Wyndmere, N.D., beginning Oct. 1.
Gasper's School of Dance was founded by husband-and-wife Broadway dancers and choreographers Eddie and Kathy Gasper, who moved to Fargo in 1978 to teach dance.
"Our alumni of students have gone on to become successful dancers in major ballet companies, actors on Broadway and in film, directors, choreographers, costume designers, producers, and casting directors," Matt Gasper says. "We're excited for the new location."
