FARGO — If you're looking for something to do outdoors on Mother's Day, you might want to visit one south Fargo neighborhood and look at their driveways.

Fox Run is holding its second annual Neighborhood Chalk Party this weekend, when residents are invited to use their driveways as a canvas for chalk-art creations with the theme of Mother's Day. Visitors to the neighborhood will be asked to vote on their favorites.

Participants will receive a shake from Challenge Nutrition, subs from Jersey Mike's and fountain pop or pizza from Casey's General Store. All participants and voters will receive an ice cream cone from Timber Creek Dairy Queen.

Community members are invited to bike, walk or stroll through Fox Run from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday to view the artwork. A voting table will be set up at 34th Street South and 44th Avenue South.

All of 34th Street will be closed to traffic in Fox Run for the event. However, skateboards, scooters, bikes, and inline skates are welcome. An ice cream truck will be in the area as well.

Homes that do not plan on participating are encouraged to reach out to neighbors that might have multiple artists in the home and offer their driveway as a canvas.

Winning works of art will receive prizes from Cash Wise, Dairy Queen, Burger King, Red River Coffee Co., Don’s Car Wash, Spicy Pie, Haute Yogis, Sport Clips and Shotwell Floral and Greenhouse, with winners will be announced at 6 p.m. at the voting table.

All of the awarded prizes are from businesses within a walkable or bikeable distance of Fox Run. Organizers say the event was created to build a sense of community not only with homeowners, but with neighboring businesses as well.

If it rains, the weather makeup date will be Sunday, May 19th.
