FARGO — North Dakota State University's director of choral activities, Jo Ann Miller, was recently named the 2021 Governor’s Award winner in the category of Arts in Education.
Miller graduated from NDSU in 1974 and would go on to get her Ph.D. She has taught at NDSU for 32 years and leads annual community favorites like the school’s Baroque Festival and annual performances of Handel’s "Messiah."
The announcement came Wednesday morning, Jan. 6. The other announced winners included: Maryhill Manor in Enderlin, which partnered with the Enderlin Municipal Fine Arts Association to win in the category of Private Business; Minot Area Council of the Arts won for Arts Organization; Individual Achievement honors went to Melissa Gordan, of Bismarck, and David Trottier, of Rugby and the Individual Cultural Heritage award went to Rex Cook in Dickinson.
The Governor’s Awards for the Arts started in 1977 to recognize individuals and organizations that notably contributed to the arts throughout the state.
