FARGO - A free screening of documentary "Poverty, Inc." will be shown at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, followed by a discussion with the film's director and producer, Michael Matheson Miller, at the Fargo Theatre, 314 Broadway N.
The film draws from more than 200 interviews filmed in 20 countries and unearths an uncomfortable side of charity, shedding light on unintended consequences of foreign aid, according to a news release.
Miller will also present a capitalism and society lecture entitled "Inclusion for the Poor: Poverty, Charity and Justice" at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at AgCountry Auditorium in Barry Hall, 811 2nd Ave. N.
Miller, a research fellow at the Acton Institute, lectures internationally on such themes as political and social philosophy, economic development, ethics and entrepreneurship. He has around 10 years of international experience, having lived and traveled in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.
The film screening and lecture are both free and open to the public. Participants can reserve tickets on Facebook and Eventbrite. Registration is encouraged, but not required.
