FARGO — Due to increased health concerns over the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, ValleyCon, which was scheduled to run from Thursday, Oct. 15, through Sunday, Oct. 18, at Fargo’s Ramada Inn & Suites, has been canceled.

Cass County's threat level was raised to orange or "high risk" Wednesday night, meaning any large events, such as ValleyCon, could operate only at a quarter of capacity, with no more than 50 attendees. The fantasy and science fiction convention typically attracts 2,000 people, though organizers estimated they would do half of that this year.

In an email announcing the cancellation, ValleyCon chairman Tony Tilton said the event would return Oct. 15-17, 2021, “with all our guests planned this year and some more to come.”

This year’s main attractions were actors Sean Patrick Flanery (“Boondock Saints”) and Gigi Edgley (“Farscape”).

The email also announced ValleyCon’s sibling event, FM Comic-Con, will be held Feb. 27 and 28.
