MOORHEAD - Some familiar faces and legendary names will be coming to town this summer and fall.
The 2017 concert series for Moorhead's Bluestem Center for the Arts was announced Tuesday morning and includes return visits from singer/guitarist Bonnie Raitt and indie rock band Modest Mouse. The lineup also holds a return from Fargo-based singer/guitarist Jonny Lang, a stop on country icon Kenny Rogers' farewell tour and the first local show by alternative rock giants, The Pixies.
"You can tell there's love for this venue that a couple of these acts want to come back," said Jade Nielsen, president of Jade Presents, which books Bluestem shows.
"There are very few like this one," Jeffrey Schatz, superintendent of Fargo Public Schools, said of the space. "It's a tremendous opportunity to have a facility like this in our community."
Nielsen announced 12 shows, four before the stage is occupied by Trollwood Performing Arts School's mainstage musical, "Disney's Beauty and the Beast," which opens a three-week run on July 14.
Nielsen said there could be about four more shows added, most likely for dates after the Trollwood run.
The concert announcement also offered an opportunity for the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony to plug its annual Symphony Rocks concert, "Let's Go Crazy: Legends of Rock," with music by Prince, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, a musical tribute to Carrie Fisher and more.
