FARGO — Longtime radio presence Bonnie Amistadi is switching stations.
Amistadi was welcomed onto "The Jay Thomas Show" on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 2, to announce the move.
Amistadi just celebrated her 30th anniversary with KFGO, with most of her time as a radio reporter. Most recently she was part of KFGO’s "Morning Crew" from 5-8 a.m.
“It was a big, big, big decision,” Amistadi told Thomas on his show, likening the split from KFGO to a divorce. “I had anxiety for a few weeks.”
“Our company is honored to team up with one of the most prominent and respected broadcasters in the Red River Valley,” Steve Hallstrom, president and managing partner of Flag Family Media, which manages WDAY radio, said in a press release.
“The addition of Bonnie will allow us to improve our programming, news coverage, and entertainment value,” Hallstrom said. “While her specific role is still being finalized, her fans can expect plenty of opportunities to enjoy her unique blend of entertainment and information.”
Amistadi said she would start working next week.
Joel Heitkamp, Amistadi’s former boss at KFGO, wished her well.
“I’ve worked with Bonnie Amistadi for 16 years and know her to be a wonderful person,” Heitkamp said via text. “I want to thank her for 30 great years at KFGO and wish her nothing but happiness in the future.”
