GRAND FORKS — Grand Forks Police officer Cpl. Ryan Wadlow thought he was stopping by Scheels for SWAT Training Tuesday, Oct. 22, but little did he know he was about to go on a trip of a lifetime.

Wadlow was chosen by the TV show "American Heroes Outdoors" to go on a hunting trip in Devils Lake.

"(It was an) absolute surprise. I thought the cameras and everything were for the sheriffs," Wadlow said.

Wadlow is an Air Force Veteran and his time in the military was where he started his career in law enforcement. On Tuesday, his brothers in blue honored him for his service.

"If you cut him he'd bleed red white and blue. That guy will drop anything on a dime to serve his country or his community or his agency," said Grand Forks County Sheriff Andy Schneider.

The show helped Wadlow shop for supplies at Scheels and he'll spend Wednesday duck hunting in Devils Lake with other veterans. An entire episode of the show will be dedicated to his story and this hunting experience. The episode is expected to air sometime next year.

"I'm just completely blown away. I thank everybody that was involved in this its amazing. So thank you," Wadlow said.
