North Dakota needs to pick up the pace in building a pipeline to deliver water to the Red River Valley to avoid inflationary cost increases and to ensure water supplies during prolonged droughts.
Officials will push for a faster construction timeline for the $1.3 billion Red River Valley Water Supply Project, which will provide supplemental water during periods of extended drought to cities including Fargo and Grand Forks.
The Red River Valley Water Supply Project will sue farmland owners for eminent domain if they don’t sign easements before July 8, 2022. Farmers say the project is paying one-tenth what others pay for far smaller oil, gas and water pipelines.
