FARGO — Davies High School students at have been facing off in a contest inspired by a popular television show on The Food Network.

About 50 students took part in "Cupcake Wars," where competitors use secret ingredients to give their cupcakes an edge on the competition.

The theme of this year's contest was "never ending winter " and the winning cupcake used maple frosting and bacon.

"The first day when we actually made the bacon, it was really rewarding to see it," said winning team member, Astrid Axtman. "It paired so nicely. After the first bite it was love."

Students got to pick two of five secret ingredients, which included garbanzo beans and mascarpone cheese.
