The song says “I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now I see.” George Wallace ran for president. He was one of the worst racists who ever lived. After he was shot and paralyzed, a kind black man pushed his wheelchair for years. Wallace became conscious and realized the evil he used to represent. Wallace quit his racist beliefs and became a decent man before he died.
Salvation and redemption are possible. The people who support and elected President Trump do not have to die drenched in the evil they have supported. There is nothing shameful in awakening to a better reality.
The Republican Party has dragged the nation and itself into a pit of shame, it does not have to stay that way.
The old folk song said “Give peace a chance.” Why not abandon the selfish greedy philosophy of the Republican party and give sharing a chance?
