The victim's fiancé is not identifying the victim, because the family is still being notified.

She did say he would have been celebrated his 41st birthday Sunday, July 25.

Mark Casler was one of about a dozen people drinking on the 2nd floor patio of the Bison Turf around 11 p.m. Saturday night when someone noticed something going on down below in the Loaf 'N Jug parking lot.

"Said there was a man with a gun, and then all of the other patrons started going inside or getting away from the railing," explained Casler.

Seconds later he said they heard a gunshot and everyone ran over to the railing.

"Noticed the gentleman on the ground, and asked him if he needed help and he said he needed help," said Casler.

Casler said the shooter, who police identified as 40-year-old Raymond Gunn did not run away.

"He was down there giving help to the gentleman," Casler explained.

Cassler said he stayed upstairs while some of his friends went downstairs to help the man who had been shot. They told Cassler that Gunn went to get napkins out of the gas station at one point to help control the bleeding, and immediately gave the gun to police when they arrived.

"He laid it at his feet and went to the cops and said he was sorry he shot the guy," one of Casler's friends who went to help told him.

Fargo police would not provide details about what may have lead to the murder. Another witness who was not with Casler and his friends said the victim was asking people for cigarettes just before he was shot.

"A little jarring, you don't expect to see that," said Casler of the shooting.

Fargo police say they will identify the victim Monday.

Gunn could be in court Monday, and that's when more about the murder would be made public.
