MOORHEAD — The Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity began constructing a home in Fargo for Sarah Brooks, a mother of two in need of housing.
The construction began on the local chapter's 30th anniversary and is one of four houses being built this year. Sarah Brooks was living in a tight apartment with her two daughters before being chosen for the new home.
The new homeowners, including Brooks, are required to make monthly payments on the mortgage based on their income, and those payments then go to new construction.
"I am a solo mama and I have an 18-month-old and a 5-year-old that just started kindergarten and they are super super excited to not only have their own rooms but a backyard to play in," "Brooks said.
