SARTELL, Minn. — The Moorhead Spuds notched a third-place finish and advanced multiple swimmers to the state tournament on Saturday in the Minnesota Section 8AA girls swimming championships at Sartell High School.

Moorhead tallied 325 team points. The Spuds' 200-yard medley relay of Ava Rodgers, Abbie Ishaug, Alayna Janke and Maggie Howe finished second in 1 minute, 48.9 seconds to advance to the state tournament.

Moorhead's Arianna Hoff swam a Sartell pool record and Moorhead school record 1:53.87 in the 200 freestyle to secure a spot in the state tournament. Janke qualified for state in the 100 butterfly with a winning time of 57.94 seconds. Rodgers followed with a second-place finish and state-qualifying time of 58.53.

In the 100 freestyle, Ishaug was the runner-up finisher with a state-qualifying time of 53.73. Hoff finished second and swam a 5:09.04 in the 500 freestyle to set a Spuds school record and qualify for the state tourney. Ishaug set a Moorhead school record in the 100 breaststroke and finished second in 1:06.92.

The Spuds capped the meet with a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay and state-qualifying swim of 3:35.95 by Hoff, Janke, Rodgers and Ishaug.
