A regularly scheduled meeting of the West Fargo School Board, West Fargo Public School District #6, pursuant to due calls and notice, was held at the Sheyenne High School Theater on November 23, 2020, at 6:00 PM, with President Patti Stedman presiding.
Members present included Vice President Jim Jonas, directors Dan Schaefer, Jon Erickson, Kara Gravley-Stack, and Jessica Jackson. Also present, representing the school district was Superintendent Beth Slette, Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Allen Burgad, Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction Rachael Agre, Business Manager Levi Bachmeier, Human Resource Director Robin Hill, Technology Director Ed Mitchell and Secretary to the Board Alicia Severson. Director Trisha Page was absent.
Mr. Schaeffer moved, seconded by Mr. Jonas, to adopt the agenda with the addition of a contract release request. The motion carried unanimously.
Mike Shea, Independence Elementary Principal, Jason Markusen, Legacy Elementary Principal and Jill Leier, Math Coordinator presented about the math program at the elementary and high school level.
Dr. Gravley-Stack moved, seconded by Ms. Jackson, to find the administration making reasonable progress with noted exception regarding board policy DR 1.2/1.5 Math. The motion carried unanimously.
There was a committee report from the Community Relations and Advocacy Committee
Mr. Erickson moved, seconded by Mr. Schaeffer, to approve the co-op agreement for Horace High School spring sports. The motion carried unanimously.
Mr. Erickson moved, seconded by Mr. Jonas, to approve the 2020-2021 budget revision. The motion carried unanimously.
Ms. Jackson moved, seconded by Dr. Gravley-Stack, to approve the construction project for Horace Elementary. The motion carried unanimously.
Dr. Gravley-Stack moved, seconded by Ms. Jackson, to approve a contract release request from Lynn Burris with the following conditions: if Ms. Burris leaves immediately, the board will assess 5% liquidated damages; if Ms. Burris stays through the last day prior to winter break, there will be no liquidated damages assessed. The motion carried unanimously.
Dr. Gravley-Stack moved, seconded by Mr. Schaeffer to approve a contract release request from Mary Lenzmeier after the last day prior to winter break with no liquidated damages. The motion carried unanimously.
Mr. Erickson moved, seconded my Ms. Jackson to enter contract negotiations with Cooper Commissioning for Independent Commissioning Services on the Horace High School project. The motion carried unanimously.
Mr. Schaeffer moved, seconded by Mr. Jonas, to approve the consent agenda which consisted of minutes from the regular meeting of the school board held on November 9, 2020; one resignation; an MOU for the 21CCLC; approval of proposal to purchase air filtration units; and a set of bills (please see the attached bill list). The motion carried unanimously.
During the superintendent's report, Superintendent Slette provided updates and shared information with the school board.
During the president's prerogatives, the school board discussed current issues and future opportunities.
The meeting adjourned at 8:03 PM.
