2 Fargo Film Fest titles nab Oscar nominations

FARGO — Two titles in the Fargo Film Festival were announced as Oscar finalists.

“Fauve,” by Jérémy Comte, was nominated for Best Live Action Short Film. The movie follows two boys exploring an open mine pit only to find their fun turn into a dangerous situation. The film premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival where it won a Special Jury Prize.

“Weekends,” by Trevor Jimenez, is about a boy splitting time between his divorced parents. It was nominated for Best Animated Short Film. Jimenez worked on animated features like “Rio,” “Finding Dory,” “Coco” and “Ralph Breaks the Internet.”

Both filmmakers are Canadian.

Showtimes for the films have not been announced yet, but the Fargo Film Festival runs March 19-23.

The Academy Awards are Feb. 27.
