GRAND FORKS-Super Penguins is one of the countless endless-run games available in the app store that we've all surely played. This one involves taking control of a penguin and running through a snow-and-ice-filled obstacle course to collect as many fish as you can while saving all of your little penguins who have been captured.
As you move through the course, tilting the device to one side or the other will make your penguin move in that direction, and a flick of your finger will have the penguin jump over obstacles or cliffs in its way.
As is the case with most of these endless run games, the game starts off slow before having your penguin move faster and faster and throwing more and more obstacles in your way.
The game is easy to pick up and becomes addictive right off the bat, edging you to best your previous best score and collect more fish. The fish are used as currency, and with them, you can purchase power-ups that make it easier to navigate the course or buy a cute hat for your adorable penguin to wear.
Though it's fun to play, I have to admit that the game left me a little empty inside. I kept wishing there was more for me to do in the game, such as a story or more characters that I could use.
Yes, the game is fun how it is, but after a few times through the course, I felt like I had seen what all of the obstacles were and wondered how I could play this game for long periods of time with my biggest quest being to collect 10,000 fish so I could buy my penguin a Viking hat.
Though the penguin responds very well and moves fluidly, the graphics in the game are very poor and also leave a lot to be desired.
Overall, Super Penguins, which is available for free on all platforms, is a fun, and at times, addicting game. It's easy to pick up, and in no time you'll be trying to collect as many fish as you can.
But if you're looking for more, turn elsewhere and find one of the other endless-run games available.
Three out of five stars.
