GRAND FORKS – I'm of the mindset that anything Pixar touches turns to gold.

So when I first sat down to play the Inside Out Thought Bubbles game, I knew I would have a good time.

The premise of the game is similar to other bubble games, where you shoot a randomly colored bubble up into a grid of other bubbles. If your bubble hits two other bubbles of the same color, they disappear. The goal of the game is to clear the board before you run out of bubbles.

The Inside Out Thought Bubbles version is a little different, however. Based on the Disney-Pixar movie, you control the five different emotions in the game-Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust-who all have different power-ups to help you clear the board.

With Joy, you let out a firework-type bubble that explodes all of the ones around it. With Sadness, a rain cloud appears and takes out an entire row of bubbles. Anger throws a fireball that cuts through wherever you need it to.

The different characters each have positives and negatives that help you clear a course, adding another level of difficulty you don't see other bubble games.

Along with that, there are different missions in the game, which involve saving other characters, firing the bubble into a hole and levels where you cannot let the bubbles get past a certain line.

Those differing levels and characters keep the game fresh and allow players to play the game differently each time they pick up their smartphones.

The one downside of the game is you have a limited amount of lives, and to replenish them in a short amount of time, you have to pay money. They do eventually come back, but that can be frustrating when you want nothing more than to clear the next level.

In the end, however, this game delivers like few other games of its kind do. So often, I get bored with games and put them down after a week or two of playing, but this game is different. After months of having it downloaded, I come back to it time and time again.

Inside Out Thought Bubbles is a clever game that celebrates the clever Pixar movie released last year.

Four out of five stars.
